QotD: On “American Idol”

The seventh season of "American Idol" premieres tonight.  Will you be watching, or are you over it?

Gah, BORING! I've never really been that interested in it, even though I did watch some of one of the seasons. I just can't remember which one. I just didn't get why they were gushing over this one guy who I thought had serial killer eyes when he was singing.

Seriously, dude, stop looking at the camera that way. I know you think it's smoldering and sexy but I keep thinking you want to skin me and wear me around like a lostdwarf suit.

And I don't like watching the beginning with the auditions. This is supposed to be a singing competition. Why give people who can't sing and who are either deluding themselves that they can (or appearing in the hopes they get their 15 minutes of fame) air time? Why are you deflecting attention away from what your show is purportedly about, singers?

I don't find it funny and it just makes me feel sad.

Plus there was this one woman who's breasts were hanging so low, I could swear when she walked, she could hit them with her knees. That one gave me some phantom pains.

Ha! Oh yes, the "sexy eyes". I'm all, "Don't look at me that way! Stranger danger!"

I find all those things boring as well as upsetting, and would really like to know what people are enchanted by. I get when people just want to watch something to make fun of it, but I'm not sure that can really apply.

Stranger danger! LOL! Nice.I'm with you – I'm not too crazy about the way they start off the season with the bad auditions. I know it's "Good Television" for Americans but not for me. And it's not because I feel sorry for the folks that don't know they aren't good enough, I feel sorry for the people who are obviously mentally ill and being exploited carelessly by Fox. It's not enough to make me boycott the whole thing, it's just too painful for me to watch some of the time. Once they get to Hollywood, I'm in. I admit it's a total guilty pleasure for me.

Once it gets to the Top 20 or Top 10, I stop changing the channel like it's the opening to Hell. But unless I hear about someone who's amazing, it's just hard to tune in.

See, you, me and Alex should head over to Memphis and hang out with Val's friend while she and her other friend watch this. We would have the greatest conversation!
